Menopause And Pregnancy
Menopause and pregnancy can happen together. In fact, you can get pregnant until you are actually through menopause. Although many women do not realize it, they can have a baby while they are in menopause and that means that you still need to take necessary precautions if you don’t want this to happen. Although menopause is the cessation of menstruation and eventually will lead to a time when you are no longer fertile, it is also the time in which your body is changing and until that change is complete, you can become pregnant.
Pre menopause is the term of time that comes before full menopause. Most women just think of the entire process of menopause, not broken into sections. During pre menopause, your body is adjusting to this new need and this new cycle. Some women will stay in pre menopause for just a few months while others will stay here for several years. There is no way to tell besides talking to your mother about her experience with menopause.
During pre menopause, pregnancy is very real and very much so can happen. During this time, your ovaries are shutting down but they aren’t fully there. For example, if you go without a period for 3 to 4 months and then have one, you are still in pre menopause which means you could still have a child through pregnancy. Doctors say that you are actually in full menopause when you haven’t had a period in 12 consecutive months. Until that happens, you can still conceive.
Meet with your doctor to discuss your specific condition. Find out how likely it is for you to become pregnant. Pregnancy can happen during the early stages of menopause and you should be prepared to handle it should it happen.
