How Clomid and Insomnia are Related
Infertility can be a very frustrating problem for many couples. Clomid, also known as clomiphene citrate, is a prescription drug used to treat infertility. Although this drug is used by many women, Clomid may cause insomnia and other side effects. Clomid is one of several drugs used to treat infertility and actually may be used in combination with other medications for men and women.
How Clomid is Used and How it Works
Clomid is used to treat low sperm counts and men, and to stimulate ovulation in women. Generally, this drug is used by women who do not ovulate regularly, or do not ovulate at all. Women that are overweight are generally advised or required to reach a healthy weight prior to being prescribed this medication. This is due to the fact that by dropping weight many women’s ovulation will be stimulated on its own without the need for drugs.
While Clomid has been proven useful with couples whose only problem is irregular or no ovulation it has not been shown as useful with couples, whose infertility is unexplained. It is also not been shown to be a sufficient treatment alone for women that suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or severe insulin resistance. These problems have mainly been linked to obesity.
Although Clomid may be effective in many situations, it does have many potential side effects that women should be aware of, prior to taking it. While Clomid causes insomnia in some cases it has many other side effects as well. Most of the side effects caused by Clomid are not life threatening. However, in certain cases (not in the case of Clomid and insomnia), they can be.
Side Effects of Clomid
Some side effects caused by Clomid include irritability, headaches, hot flashes, breast tenderness, blurred vision, nausea, hair loss, and ovarian hyperstimulation. Ovarian hyperstimulation can range from a bit of discomfort to being life-threatening. This is caused by enlarged ovaries, which can cause a person to have abdominal pain and nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath. Any person who experiences this type of side effect while on Clomid should consult a doctor right away.
Although Clomid and Insomnia are related, women considering taking this infertility drugs should be aware of the potentially more serious side effects such as the enlarged ovaries. Clomid causing insomnia is really merely an annoyance compared to this issue. Couples considering this therapy should also be aware that this drug is not generally administered by itself. Generally speaking, Clomid is prescribed in addition to other medications that work together to overcome the infertility problem.
