39_saveknees.jpg..The Arthritis Society has launched the Lifestyle Makeover Challenge to help Canadians reduce the onset and disability of some forms of arthritis by adopting a more active, healthier lifestyle. Losing just 10 to 11 pounds translates into a decrease in stress on knee joints by 40 pounds and reduces the risk of needing a joint replacement by 25 per cent.

“Our goal is to motivate Canadians to take an active role in managing their health,” says president and CEO of The Arthritis Society, John Fleming. “People need to know that it is possible to fight arthritis, and the Lifestyle Makeover Challenge is one of those ways.”

It only takes 21 days to form a habit; this challenge begins as a four-week personal journey that encourages Canadians to become more active and eat healthier to delay the onset and reduce the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis. The first 5,000 Canadians who sign up at www.arthritis.ca/lifestyle will receive a free Thera-Band and an activity tracker which can help them set their own goals and pace, resulting in healthier habits for life.
